The Journey Continues

As Salaamu Alaikum Brothers and Sisters;

Results of the last CT scan are in: the cancer continues to grow and spread throughout Jamal’s body. The tumor in his abdomen has increased in size from the last report of 11.6 cm to 19.2 cm and there is a new tumor growing in his left lung. His medical team at the Winship Cancer Institute has decided the best course of action is chemotherapy once again. The chemo will begin tomorrow and continue over the next 3 months. It is the doctors hope that the tumor will shrink to a size small enough that he can then operate and remove it. Because of the aggressive nature of this cancer, it is imperative that he start treatment immediately. This medical team has reiterated what we learned in Saudi Arabia, that the cancer is beyond cure at this point and any treatment is to extend Jamal’s life as long as possible. However, we know that Allah is in control of life and death and He has already decreed the outcome. We hold on to the hope that through dua, healthy habits and medical assistance, Jamal will be cured.

Being a witness to what Jamal is going through is life changing. Despite this news, Jamal continues to amaze us with his calm and steadfast approach to his everyday. His interactions with his children is beautiful to watch. Despite any pain and discomfort he feels, he is still up to assist with midnight feedings of the new baby and early morning school preparation and walks to the bus stop for his older children. Despite no source of income, he will be the first to reach in his pocket to pay for your meal. He does this without complaint. May Allah reward him with the best in this life and the best of the afterlife, ameen! His wife and children also amaze us as there is no fear in their voices when they discuss their father’s disease. Instead, prayers are always pouring from their lips when they discuss it and you can hear hope, not sadness, in their voices. At every mention of the chemo or cancer, they say “may Allah cure daddy, may Allah make it better than last time for daddy” masha Allah.

He still needs our help. Anyone looking to benefit from giving sadaqa, we ask you for your help. You can donate via the paypal link below or contact me directly @ lateefah.mu@gmail.com to inquire about his families needs. No amount is too small because it all adds up. Because of the nature of his illness and the treatment he will undergo, employment outside of the home is not an option at this time and we received word last week that he is not elligable for social security disability benefits. If you know of any work from home employment opportunities in IT, please refer them to us.

As always, we are eternally grateful to you. Without your help, news of Jamal’s plight would not have traveled the world. Your care, your diligence and attention to this situation has made all the difference in the world. We ask Allah to bless all of you. To our special friends in Saudi Arabia, know that you are in our hearts and thoughts and we thank you so very much for the assistance you gave Jamal and his family in their time of need. Please keep Jamal in your prayers, stay along for the ride and spread the word.

Jazakumallahu Khairan

Life in the States

As Salaamu Alaikum Brothers and Sisters,

Jamal and his family are settling nicely into their new home here in Georgia. After living in the desert for the last 8 years, seeing all the trees and feeling the moisture in the air is a welcomed change. The children are curious and eager to learn about their new environment and it is such a pleasure to witness.

Jamal has reunited with our father and the rest of the family, enjoying a long weekend in the DC area. He was also able to see many old and new friends at the Al-Huda fundraiser dinner. We thank you for all your dua and ask that you keep Jamal and his family in your dua.

As for Jamal’s health, Alhamdulillah, we were able to get approved for charitable treatment at the Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta, GA. This means Jamal will receive treatment for his cancer for at least the next 6 months at no charge. We are only responsible for whatever medications prescribed. Allahu Akbar, another dua answered by Allah and we are so very grateful. He had his first initial appointment yesterday and will have a CT Scan today to find out the status of the cancer. Updates to come on that next week, insha Allah. We ask Allah to remove all traces of cancer from Jamal’s body and to cure him completely, ameen!

Stay tuned, keep Jamal in your dua and we thank you for your encouragement, assistance and dua.

Jazakumallahu Khairan

New Happenings and Updates

As Salaamu Alaikum Brothers and Sisters;

After receiving numerous inquiries into how Jamal is doing we decided to update this site now, although we wanted the next update to have a confirmed date of his return to the states. Unfortunately, we can’t provide that date as of today much to our chagrin.

It has been a very frustrating journey for our family but mostly for our brother Jamal, his wife Safia and their children who asks daily when they will be back home with family. The good news is we have solidified a home for Jamal and his family conveniently located in the same subdivision, one street down from where his sister, Lateefah Muhammad, and brother-in-law live in Georgia. Less than 4 miles down the road is also where his brother Atif Muhammad lives with his wife and children. Jamal and Safia will have the family support needed for their transition into life in the States as well as to make sure Jamal receives the care he will need once settled. Allahu Akbar. This was an answer to many of our dua and we thank Allah for this blessing.

Now, we just need to get them here. The process of obtaining a visa for Safia has been the stalemate in this journey. We have submitted applications, health records informing the consulate of the dire nature of Jamal’s situation and co-sponsor information but we have yet to receive approval of her visa. As of today, there has been no word, Allahu Musta’an. Please make dua that we get the approval this week so Jamal and his family can return to the US.

Approximately 7 weeks ago, Jamal completed his 3rd and final round of chemotherapy. Results from his MRI scan post chemo came in today: there was a significant decrease in the size of the mass in his abdomen (from 15.5 cm to 11.6 cm post chemo) and also a decrease in the size of the bone metastasis in his spine and pelvis, Alahamdulillah. However, while the cancer has shrunk, it still is present in Jamal’s pelvis, spine, abdomen and the right gluteal and iliacus muscles. Unfortunately, the pain which initially left after the chemotherapy has now started to make a come back. It is imperative that he gets treatment ASAP. We ask Allah to remove the cancer from Jamal for good, ameen!

We hope to be able to announce a date for their arrival soon, bi’ithnillah and we thank you for your continued prayers and financial assistance. May Allah reward you all with good.

Spread the word and stay with us.

Jazakumallahu Khairan.
