As Salaamu Alaikum Brothers and Sisters;
Results of the last CT scan are in: the cancer continues to grow and spread throughout Jamal’s body. The tumor in his abdomen has increased in size from the last report of 11.6 cm to 19.2 cm and there is a new tumor growing in his left lung. His medical team at the Winship Cancer Institute has decided the best course of action is chemotherapy once again. The chemo will begin tomorrow and continue over the next 3 months. It is the doctors hope that the tumor will shrink to a size small enough that he can then operate and remove it. Because of the aggressive nature of this cancer, it is imperative that he start treatment immediately. This medical team has reiterated what we learned in Saudi Arabia, that the cancer is beyond cure at this point and any treatment is to extend Jamal’s life as long as possible. However, we know that Allah is in control of life and death and He has already decreed the outcome. We hold on to the hope that through dua, healthy habits and medical assistance, Jamal will be cured.
Being a witness to what Jamal is going through is life changing. Despite this news, Jamal continues to amaze us with his calm and steadfast approach to his everyday. His interactions with his children is beautiful to watch. Despite any pain and discomfort he feels, he is still up to assist with midnight feedings of the new baby and early morning school preparation and walks to the bus stop for his older children. Despite no source of income, he will be the first to reach in his pocket to pay for your meal. He does this without complaint. May Allah reward him with the best in this life and the best of the afterlife, ameen! His wife and children also amaze us as there is no fear in their voices when they discuss their father’s disease. Instead, prayers are always pouring from their lips when they discuss it and you can hear hope, not sadness, in their voices. At every mention of the chemo or cancer, they say “may Allah cure daddy, may Allah make it better than last time for daddy” masha Allah.
He still needs our help. Anyone looking to benefit from giving sadaqa, we ask you for your help. You can donate via the paypal link below or contact me directly @ lateefah.mu@gmail.com to inquire about his families needs. No amount is too small because it all adds up. Because of the nature of his illness and the treatment he will undergo, employment outside of the home is not an option at this time and we received word last week that he is not elligable for social security disability benefits. If you know of any work from home employment opportunities in IT, please refer them to us.
As always, we are eternally grateful to you. Without your help, news of Jamal’s plight would not have traveled the world. Your care, your diligence and attention to this situation has made all the difference in the world. We ask Allah to bless all of you. To our special friends in Saudi Arabia, know that you are in our hearts and thoughts and we thank you so very much for the assistance you gave Jamal and his family in their time of need. Please keep Jamal in your prayers, stay along for the ride and spread the word.
Jazakumallahu Khairan
